VolunteersAbout the Friends of the Warrenton Caboose

OUR MISSION is to care for Warrenton's vintage N&W railroad
caboose #518554 and work to broaden the public's awareness of the region's
railroad heritage through media, displays, and interpretations.

The Friends of the Warrenton Caboose organization was built on the tireless dedication of the original volunteers that restored Warrenton's vintage Norfolk & Western Railway Caboose. In addition to overseeing the restoration and installation of all trackwork, the group has accomplished some great work over the past 15+ years. Some notable accomplishments have included installing and electrifying the N&W position light signal, restoring and installing vintage railroad signs along the Greenway, and developing an interpretive display for the old Warrenton turntable. These are to name but a few!

Today, under the dedicated leadership of Mr.Ken Wilson, the Friends of the Warrenton Caboose care for #518554 and all of the railroad displays and equipment on the Warrenton Branch Greenway, and, staff the caboose during tours and open houses. Additionally, the group works hand in hand with the Town of Warrenton and Fauquier County Parks & Recreation to ensure the attraction is a vital part of the community for years to come.

There is always something exciting to do at the caboose! Please take a minute to visit on a summer Saturday or consider volunteering a few hours to help maintain this important part of Warrenton's railroad heritage.

The Friends of the Warrenton Caboose is a proud member and supporter of both the Norfolk & Western Historical Society and the Southern Railway Historical Association.
